Love Yourself isn’t a typical Justin Bieber song. It was co-written by Ed Sheeran, so it’s not the usual electronic pop music you would expect from Justin Bieber.

This song is played on an electric guitar, but you can play it on an acoustic of course. It’s loads of fun to play along with the original. Also, Love Yourself is a very easy song to learn on guitar, so you’re in for a treat, even if you just started playing guitar recently.

Our Love Yourself guitar lesson will teach you all parts of the song, including the main verse, pre-chorus, chorus, as well as the trumpet solo (without the trumpet).

We’ll start by going over a bit of theory. The song is played in the key of E major, so we’ll cover the chords in E major. All of the chords we’ll play in Love Yourself will be chords from this scale. We won’t be playing full chords in the song though, just 3 notes of each chord.

After the primer on the theory, we’ll start the tutorial by learning the chords for the main verse, followed by the fingerpicking pattern. We’ll go into the intricacies of the slapping technique used in the song, it provides a nice percussive element, which you’ll be able to use in other songs as well.

Next, we’ll learn the pre-chorus chords and picking pattern, followed by the chorus chords.

At the end of the tutorial on Love Yourself, we’ll have a look at the solo riff. It’s played on the trumpet in the song, but it sounds great on the guitar as well of course.
